January 5, 2018 – County Line Squares “Western Night” Square Dance, Monticello, Caller Tom Allen, Cuer Sarah Klaphake.  Seven squares with dancers from Westonka Whirlers, Wandering Wheels, Spares & Pairs, Single Circles, Koronis Nite Owls, Hot Foot Stompers, Dan’se P.A.C., and County Line Squares were present.  Also present were SDM Chair LeRoy Elfmann, SDM Secretary Gael Zachman, SDM Historian Al Martin, SDM Marketing Director Dee Scott, and SDM Membership Director Mary Kay Amberg.

December 31, 2017 – County Line Squares “New Year’s Eve – Dancing Under the Stars” Square Dance, Monticello, Caller Abe Maier, Guest Caller Tom Allen, Cuer Jane Simpson. Ten squares with dancers (see photo above) from Beaux & Belles, Cambridge Corners, County Line Squares, Hot Foot Stompers, Koronis Nite Owls, Single Circles, Spares & Pairs, and Westonka Whirlers.  Also present were Spares & Pairs Queen Kathy and King Brad, County Line Squares Queen Susie and King Jim, SDM Chair LeRoy Elfmann, SDM Secretary Gael Zachman, SDM Education Director Barry Downs, and SDM Historian Al Martin.

December 29, 2017 – Prairie Promenaders “Helfter’s 50th Anniversary” Square Dance, Fargo, Caller Myron Hollatz and Guest Caller Roger McNeil.  Three squares with dancers from Circle 8 Plus, Country Twirlers, County Line Squares, F-M Square Dancers Association, L & M Squares, and Prairie Promenaders were present.  Congratulations – Mark and Hella (see photo above).  Also present were many of their non-square dancing family and friends.

December 20, 2017 – Spares & Pairs “Jingle Bell Jubilee” Dinner/Square Dance, Bloomington, Caller Dick Rueter, Guest Caller Larry Fruetel, Cuer Ray Belanger.  Westonka Whirlers  (see photo above) retrieved their banner from Spares & Pairs.

December 22, 2017 – Gospel Plus Square Dance, Hopkins, Caller Tom Allen, Cuer Ken LaBau.  Six squares (see photo above) with dancers from Beaux & Belles, County Line Squares, Crystal Cross Trailers, Dan’se P.A.C., Gotta Dance Rounds, Hot Foot Stompers, Single Circles, South Metro Stars, Spares & Pairs, Square & Twirl, Wandering Wheels, and Westonka Whirlers were present.  Also present were Hot Foot Stompers Queen Rose, USDA Plains Regions Vice Presidents Floyd and Judy Engelhardt, Federation Member Services Erica Friedman, SDM Membership Director Mary Kay Amberg, SDM Historian Al Martin, SDM Education Director Barry Downs, SDM Secretary Gael Zachman, SDM Treasurer Deb Hollimon, and SDM Chair LeRoy Elfmann.

December 18, 2017 – The Erickson Family Band (Scott, Jennifer, Anna, and Emily – see photo above) provided “live” square dance music for the workshop dance at The Gillespie Center in Mound, with caller Dick Rueter.  What a fun Christmas present!

A mere five minutes of “practice” and “talk” between the talented Dick Rueter and the band and the fun began.

Smiles were everywhere!

Applause was abundant!

Fun! Friends! Friendship! Merry Christmas!

A very talented family band provided live music while Dick called.

And then Emily and Anna had a tip so they could try square dancing.

Over four squares enjoyed the evening. Unfortunately some had to leave before the evening ended. Happy New Year.
